About
Started at one door downtown.
Viking Brothers, LLC, doing business as Odin’s Gate Guards, was formed in Rapid City in October 2021. It is veteran-operated and owner-run — the person who signs your contract is the person who answers the phone.
The company began with door work in downtown Rapid City. By early 2024 it held contracts at Press Start, Paddy’s, Murphy's and Aby’s, and patrolled between them at no charge — which is how two television stations came to cover it.
Alongside the door work, the company ran an hourly shuttle between downtown and Ellsworth Air Force Base, free to airmen with military identification, started in response to rising DUI arrests. KBHB Radio covered that in October 2023, five months before the security coverage.

In August 2024 we acquired the Timberline Security business in Butte, Montana, along with its premises and its phone line. That opened Montana operations, which now run out of Butte and Billings. Billings is the office nearest the disaster-response work on the Crow reservation.
Today the company holds federal armed-guard contracts, staffs construction sites and events across the Black Hills, and still works the same downtown doors it started on.
A note on what changed here
This site used to carry a badge reading “voted #1 Security Company in South Dakota.” We could not identify who ran that vote, so it is gone. What replaced it is a set of things you can go and check yourself: federal contract numbers, a Better Business Bureau file, and two news reports with named sources.
Offices
Where officers dispatch from
A guard has to physically reach your site, so we list the offices they leave from and the towns each one genuinely covers. Wyoming work is taken on contract from Rapid City and Billings; we do not keep an office there.

The Smokin' Turtle book drive
A Rapid City Christmas drive the company supports, collecting books, toys and stocking stuffers for local children each holiday season.
